Fishergate Loop (1961)

Construction date: Never Constructed
Proposed in 1961 as part of the Travers Morgan Report into York Transport, this urban highway would have carried up to six lanes across the Ouse at a point south of the Ouse/Foss conflux. On the east side it would have linked with Fishergate and on the west it would have continued on towards Acomb Road.

Author’s Notes

This, like pretty much everything to do with the 1961 plan, would have radically changed the nature of York and would have left it with a concrete collar that we would - like Birmingham - now be trying to remove.
